Some sold chocolates, other marketed their skills and few others showcased their dancing talent! Team members at Wells Fargo India Solutions in Bengaluru went all out donning their entrepreneurial hats by putting their best foot forward for a good cause.

As part of the Sparsh Fundraising Week from August 4-9, team members came together to organize fundraising activities to celebrate the spirit of giving. After the stupendous success of the Fundraising Week in Hyderabad in May, which helped raise close to INR 1.5 million for three government schools, the Bengaluru team members took up the challenge to up the ante for three charitable institutions of the city.

The proceeds from the Week will be utilized to support Triveni Nagar School, Swanthana (a home for mentally and physically challenged girl children) and Snehadaan (an orphanage for HIV-infected children) under Sneha Care Homes. Wells Fargo India Solutions has a long-term association with these institutions working in tandem with partner NGOs. On the last day of the fundraising week (Aug 9), families of team members will also get the opportunity to join the cause and do their bit for the community.

"It's a coming together of minds and hearts towards a dedicated effort for one week. We initiated this event in 2011, under our Sparsh community service program, with the objective of raising money for the government schools and homes for the underprivileged children that Wells Fargo India Solutions supports throughout the year," said Vishnupriya Saksena, Vice President, Corporate Sustainability, Wells Fargo India Solutions.

Over the years, the Fundraising Week has become an extremely popular event with the atmosphere turning into a festival of sorts with a lot of energy and enthusiasm shown by the entire organization. "Our objective is to get our team members involved in a fun way for a social cause. Driven by the spirit to give for a cause that is close to our hearts, our team members come up with very creative ways of generating funds. While it makes significant impact on the communities we live in, the week-long event also strengthens the commitment of our team members to give back to the community we are part of," Saksena added.

Growing in magnitude over the years, the 2013 Fundraising Week saw team members raising more than INR 1.3 million (up by 50% YOY) by putting up close to 290 stalls in Bangalore and Hyderabad. The funds raised last year in Bangalore were handed over to the partner NGOs and were used for various activities like vision pre-screening, providing for salaries of teachers, library improvements, laboratory construction, and school-kit distribution. Some of the other activities included tuition classes, installing water filters, bookshelves and classroom screens.

This year, some of the Fundraising Week attractions at Bangalore include retro photography, sale of saplings, selling of hand-made jewellery, dedicating songs, selling home-made delicacies, and gaming stalls.

While volunteerism encourages team member participation, the Fundraising Week also has an enhanced value proposition of being a platform to showcase skills that a team member wouldn't be able to otherwise showcase in the day-to-day role.
