A creative and a beautiful idea for celebrations is what The Mysore Horticultural Society, Lalbagh has come up with for this Republic Day. The organisation is all geared up to host the Republic Day Flower Show, starting from January 17 to 26. The foundation has organised 200 such flower shows ever since its inception in 1912.
Speaking to media, SP Sadakshariswamy, chairman of Mysore Horticulture Society, said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the flower show at Glass House in Lalbagh on January 17, while Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ananth Kumar will release the souvenir. “For the first time, we have made arrangements to book tickets for the flower show online. As a security measure, we will also use drone-based cameras when a large number of people visit the flower show on weekends and public holidays,’’ Sadakshariswamy said.
The highlight of the flower show is a 50 feet long, 28 ft high and 40 ft wide replica of Red Fort. Three lakh roses of different colours will be used for its decoration. More than 45 artists have been working for the last 15 days on this project. A flower replica of the Statue of Liberty will be made at the Glass House as well,’’ he said.
As part of security measures, organisers have installed metal detectors and hidden cameras at all entry points and other selected areas of Lalbagh gardens. Entry tickets will be sold at all entry points from 9 am to 6 pm and the entry to visit Glass House will close at 7 pm,’’ he said. The entry fee for adults is Rs 40 (on January 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24), Rs 50 (on January 18, 25 and 26); for children, Rs 10. Tickets are available on the website of The Mysore Horticultural Society, Lalbagh.
