In what can be a big relief for commuters, Cubbon Road will soon be open to traffic from August. The arterial stretch from BRV Junction to Minsk Square will be open to vehicles after four long years, when it was shut for Namma Metro construction work.

With the underground metro construction work set to wrap up by the end of this month, commuters can have access to major areas like Shivaji Nagar and HAL Road with comparative ease.

Speaking with iamin, Jayaram, a regular commuter said, “Due to the metro construction, the stretch was partially shut, forcing us to take longer detours to reach our destination. We usually had to rely on commuting through MG Road or Queen’s Road, which are extremely congested during peak hours. With this stretch open, we can save travel time as well as avoid the annoying traffic jams.”

Cubbon Road was shut on May 20, 2011, because of which commuters had to take alternative routes causing the stretch between the Income Tax building up to Manipal Centre to become a dreaded bottle-neck. One of the workers at the metro construction site, said, “The work will be complete by this month. We are in the last phase of work with minor things like laying asphalt on the road left to be completed."

Considering that the project has taken more than the initially decided three years to complete, UA Vasanth Rao, PRO, BMRCL said, “Ensuring that Cubbon Road is ready for traffic movement is a priority for us and we are trying to get work finished at the earliest. While the work on the surface of the road will be completed by this month, the underground construction work will go on till October.”
