Police launch special drive against eve teasers

In an effort to tackle eve teasing menace, the city police have launched a four-day special drive against eve teasing. As many as 350 vagabonds, who were caught in the act across the city, were picked up by the police on Saturday and they were booked under the provisions of the Karnataka Police Act.

The police, who have considered the crime against women and children seriously, launched the special drive on Saturday in the six divisions of the city except the North East division. The drive will be on till Tuesday and the police are contemplating to crack down on eve teasers on a daily basis.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Alok Kumar said that all the DCPs were directed to act tough against eve teasers and accordingly 73 eve teasers in north division, 77 in west 41 in south east, 28 in central division among several others in south and east divisions were picked up as they were found eve teasing girls and women. Those who were picked up have been asked to appear before a court and pay the penalty.

"Policemen in plain clothes are keeping an eye on eve teasers near colleges, schools, malls, Lal Bagh, Cubbon Park and other areas were more women and girls visit. The drive will be intensified in the coming days. We are taking up several other steps to curb the menace," he added.
