My part in encounter came as a surprise: ASI

A day after the funeral of Sub-Inspector Mallikarjuna Bande,injured in an encounter with gangster Munna Daradar, assistant sub-inspector Uddandappa,47, who was also serious injured and admitted in Global Hospital in Hyderabad, has revealed that he was unaware that operation to arrest the Mumbai gangster before he was ordered to be part of it.

Speaking with reporters in Hyderabad, Uddandappa said he had been station house writer (SHO) for 25 years and was never involved in such operations.

“As many personnel had been to Bidar for escorting VIPs, wer were sent for patrolling in Gulbarga.
When we were having a cup of tea, I received an instruction from our SHO to go to Roza police station. As I am in-charge of weapons, I was also instructed to give some pistols to personnel.
When I rushed to the spot many senior officials, including IGP Mohamed Wazir Ahmed, were present there. Some of them went to a nearby home. When I followed PSI Bande and entered a home, it was completely dark there. Within a fraction of second, I was attacked by 2 bullets and came out with injuries. IGP sent me in his jeep to Basaveshwar Hospital,” he explained.

Uddandappa’s wife Ambubai and children alleged that no higher official or minister visited them even after eight days of the tragedy.

“We just want our father back in good health,” chorus his five children, three sons and two daughters.
