A staggering 99.59% polling was recorded in the by-poll to Dharwad legislative council constituency, held on Thursday.
Of the 7,316 voters, 7,286 belonging to different local bodies exercised their franchise in the constituency where former chief minister Jagadish Shettar’s brother Pradeep Shettar faces stiff competition from Congress candidate Nagaraj Chebbi.
Jagadish Shettar, BJP state president Prahlad Joshi, ministers HK Patil and Santosh Lad exercised their votes in Hubli, Gadag and Kalghatgi. Dharwad local bodies constituency includes Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri districts and has 484 bodies in its jurisdiction.
Dharwad taluk in Dharwad district, Mundargi taluk (Gadag district), Shiggaon, Haveri and Byadagi taluks (Haveri district) recorded 100% polling and Nargund taluk in Gadag district stood last with 96.88% polling.
Deputy commissioner Sameer Shukla said the polling went peacefully in the constituency. Counting will take place at the University of Agriculture Sciences in Dharwad on August 26.
