It's Wednesday and if you get this feeling that you need a mid-week break already, then listen to your heart and hit it off with some shots of good music. Monkey Bar could be your destination as the gastropub is hosting Pop Culture Bar Nights with one of the most popular bands in the city Allegro Fudge. The band comprising Saahas Patil (vocals), Jason Zachariah (keyboard), Anish Nadh (acoustic guitar) and Shalini Mohan (bass guitar) are best known for producing sounds of rock, pop, country, celtic, folk, jazz and classical and tonight, they are set to blow your minds off with something new, something different.

"This is our first performance at Monkey Bar and this also the first time that we will be performing as only a three-piece band for a public show. It will just be Saahas, Shalini and me trying out a couple of new things for tonight's gig. Anish will miss this gig but that's fine because we have tried this format for various corporate shows in the past and it has worked pretty well. I think this is a good opportunity to experiment for our future public performances," says Jason.

Tonight, the band is expected to play songs from their debut album, Maximum City and songs with a distinct flavour inspired by people and events around them. "We plan to add percussion to music and perform new songs - covers and originals which we haven't performed yet.

Unlike our other performances, which are always high on energy, tonight the focus will be only on music. From old classics to new tunes and songs which have won the Grammy, our line-up includes music that everyone in the house can relate to," shares Jason.
Talking about the trend of performing in pubs becoming popular, Jason explains,

"I think pub gigs have become the most regular and popular in the last six years. One of the major reasons for this is that college fest don't support too many band performances anymore because they prefer having a DJ over a band. But pub gigs are a positive change and I think this is where one can look out for independent music."
Can performing in a non-fest like environment hurt an artiste? "Different artistes interpret this differently.

We have played at different venues and most of the places have been the ones which draws crowd that's there just for the music. But there are places where the band is expected to play ambient music somewhere in the background which some bands don't like and some are fine with it. We are cool with everything. For us, it's not the venue, but performance and music that matters. We just try to have fun at all our performances," chirps Jason, as he signs out.
