Tech giant Microsoft is aiming at establishing an industry-academia kind of relationship with engineering colleges in India.

Through the Microsoft Academia Accelerator, the company will collaborate with the faculty of 10 leading engineering colleges in India, to enhance the computer science curriculum, and drive ahead student-led innovation and entrepreneurship.

Vinod Anantharaman, head, business management, Microsoft India (R&D), says the Academia Accelerator programme aims to expose students to critically important technology trends and practices during their formative years. “This will prepare them with necessary skills and experiences that will enrich their careers and fuel innovation.”

“Academia Accelerator will connect students and faculty to the very latest in technology,” says Anil Bhansali, MD, Microsoft India (R&D).

This programme has two components. Firstly, a series of workshops spanning important technology topics like big data, cloud computing, online advertising, web mining.

Secondly, a series of student hackathons that will give students an opportunity to work in team environments to build applications leveraging Microsoft platforms like mobile and cloud. The hackathons will also familiarise students with concepts needed to build apps for various devices like smartphones, tablets, etc.
