Here is good news for Bangaloreans who want to commute by the metro train and find it difficult to find parking for their two-wheelers at the respective Namma Metro stations. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is seriously contemplating to provide the much needed parking facility for the benefit of metro train passengers.

Mayor BS Satyanarayana, who accompanied transport minister, Ramalinga Reddy, to visit the Namma Metro stations on KR Road and Mysore Road, told mediapersons efforts would be made by the BBMP to construct a parking lot near all Namma Metro stations.

“We will discuss it in the BBMP council meeting whether these parking lots have to be constructed by the BBMP or in public-private partnership. A decision would be taken in this regard shortly,’’ said Satyanarayana.

During the visit to the KR Road station, the mayor was seen inquiring with Pradeep Singh Kharola, managing director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on whether a provision was made for a parking facility. Kharola informed him that it hadn’t.

“We will provide parking facility on our own. We will construct parking lots wherever BBMP’s land is available near metro stations,’’ he said.

On realignment in Jayanagar

Reddy said the government has been rethinking of realigning the metro near Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular and Research (JICR), due to the cost of land.

“We need to spend Rs800 crore to Rs1,000 crore on land acquisition near JICR. Around 80 buildings have to be demolished. We are contemplating on acquiring minimum land to reduce the cost. A meeting will be held to discus about it shortly,’’ said the minister.

He said the metro train services between Malleswaram and Peenya would commence in December, although BMRCL announced that it would start in November. The BMRCL is yet to receive the safety certificate from the commissioner of railway safety.

“The visit of commissioner of railway safety is yet to be finalised, and it will take some time for him to issue the safety certificate,’’ said BMRCL sources.

The construction of the metro station at Nayandahalli would be completed by March 2014, reportedly.

Grade separator
Though one of the arms of the grade separator that connects Outer Ring Road to the railway underbridge at Nayandahalli was thrown open a few months ago, the work on the other wing from BHEL to Nayandahalli bus stand is yet to be completed. The BDA took up the construction of this grade separator in 2010 and was supposed to complete it last year, but the deadline was extended to December 2013. The cost of the grade separator was estimated to be Rs76.85 crore.

Concrete roads along metro route?
The BMRCL is mulling on laying concrete roads between metro stations on MG Road and Baiyappanahalli. The company MD Pradeep Singh Kharola told this to mediapersons on Tuesday. He was inspecting metro stations on KR Road and Mysore Road. He said they are considering the proposal of making concrete roads to get rid of the problem of potholes, which reoccur frequently on asphalted roads. He said concrete roads last longer, which is why the BMRCL is looking at them as a solution to the pothole menace. For the time being, he said all the roads along metro routes would be asphalted soon.
