Financial and family dispute led a 51-year-old man to attack his wife and father-in-law in full public view. The father-in-law died on the spot while his wife is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The incident was reported near Sunkadakatte bus stop on Magadi Road on Sunday morning. The angry mob, who caught the accused, bashed him up before he was handed over to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Murthyappa, 71, a native of Mysore, while his daughter Kalpana, 45, is the injured. The accused has been identified as Kailasamurthy, also a native of Mysore. He was married to Kalpana about 25 years ago and the couple have three children.

According to the police, Kailasamurthy had sold his land for around Rs 40 lakh and had given the money to his wife some years ago. She had kept the money as fixed deposit in a bank and she had allegedly started neglecting Kailasamurthy after that. A few years ago she had left him and started living in her father's house. She had also reportedly stopped answering her husband's phone calls.

"Kailasamurhty was upset over this. He knew that his wife would often visit thier daughter Asha, a software engineer, in the city. He learnt that Kalpana along with her father had come to the city to collect the interest amount of the FD. He came to the city on Saturday night and was searching for them. He got to know that Kalpana and her father were staying in a lodge in Sunkadakatte. He went there on Sunday morning and as the duo came out from the lodge, he attacked them with a machete. Murthyappa died on the spot while Kalpana was rushed to a hospital. Though, the accused tried to flee, the locals nabbed him and thrashed him. He was later arrested," the Kamakshipalya police, who have registered a case, said.
