The Karnataka High Court has summoned the Principal Secretary, Education department, Karnataka State in a matter regarding children not being admitted under Right to Education (RTE) in seven schools in the City.

When the matter came up for hearing on Tuesday, the Government submitted that the education department is busy with VIBGYOR school matter and hence details were not provided by them. They also sought more time to file details about this.

The petition has been filed by 27 students seeking admission to LKG and first standard in seven different schools in NS Palya, Somasandrapalya, Vittasandra, JP Nagar, BTM Layout, Suddaguntepalya and Bethadasanapura. They had sought for admission for the academic year 2014-15 under RTE act. Their selection process were completed and were also admitted to the schools. But later they were told that, students can't be admitted since the schools come under minority status and hence do not come under RTE Act.

The petittioners then approached the High Court and a public interest litigation was initiated on the same. On Tuesday's hearing, it was submitted that the two schools have minority status while the other five have applied for it. The bench then directed the Government to look into those details and get instructions form the Department. The Court then directed Principal secretary, Education Department to be present for the next hearing.

The schools include Vibgyor School N S Palya, Vibgyor School Somasandrapalya, Vibgyor School Vittasandra, Clarrence School J P Nagar, St Miras School BTM Layout, Christ School Suddaguntepalya and St Xavier SChool Bethadasanpura who had earlier stated that they have minority status.
