For the next 10 days, there will be no mahurat functions or shootings of Kannada films as film producers began a 10-day dharna from June 1, from the premises of Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce. The main complaint of the association is non-cooperation of Kannada film artistes in promoting the regional films.
Speaking to iamin, Musuru Jayasimha, spokesperson for Kannada Film Producers' Association said the producers have been incurring a huge loss due to the non-cooperation of Kannada film actors and actresses in promoting regional films.
"Most of the actors are reluctant in participation of promotional activities of the films even in which they have played the lead roles. They are not realising the importance of publicity for Kannada films,'' he said.
Around 250 Kannada film producers had gathered at Basant Residency on May 31 and came up with the decision to stage a dharna for 10 days demanding that the artistes promote Kannada films as well.
The other demand of the film producers is that no artiste especially, Puneeth Rajkumar, Sudeep and Ramesh, should take part in reality shows organised by private TV channels. "With some of the actors becoming busy with reality shows, the shooting schedule of Kannada films has been affected badly, thus making film producers incur huge losses. Earlier, TV channels would vie for satellite rights of Kannada films. Now, no one is interested to buy the rights of Kannada films,'' said Jaggesh, an artiste-cum-producer.
According to reliable sources, no artist has neither opposed the dharna of film producers nor visited the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce to convince the producers to withdraw the ongoing agitation.
