If all roads led to NaMO’s rally in Patna yesterday, four days from today all chartered flight plans will list Jodhpur as their destination — in a manner of speaking. While many of the over 300 VVIP guests expected in Jodhpur for Nita Ambani’s 50th birthday gala will arrive in their own jets, even the Ambanis have engaged 4 planes to ferry their friends and family for the 2-day function, which kicks off on October 31.
Though lack of space at Jodhpur airport means most of the jets will be sent to Udaipur, Jaipur and even Delhi for parking, more than enough luxury suites have been booked at five of the best hotels in the historic city for the invitees — including the Umaid Bhawan Palace and the Balsamand Lake Palace which also happen to be the venues of the birthday celebration. A fortnight ago Nita herself flew down with daughter Isha and younger son Anant to take stock of the preparations. Though the birthday of the Ambani twins Isha and Akash on October 23 was a low key affair, they’ll get to celebrate it belatedly in Jodhpur with their friends and cousins.
Apparently a twin theme has been planned — there is word that the first day will be dominated by the youngsters with a no-holds barred party, cake-cutting, music, dance and even performances by Bollywood stars — but the theme for D-day is in complete contrast. This year, Nita’s birthday on November 1 coincides with the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras and an elaborate pooja has been planned, which will be followed by some special performances strictly by family and close friends and a traditional feast at the magnificent Bal Samand Lake Palace. Clearly, they want the best of both worlds.
