Involve Cos to solve garbage menace: Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court has directed Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to look into the possibility of involving corporates and public into the whole process of garbage management in the whole City. While hearing a batch of petitions filed by various organisations in and around the City, the counsel for the petitioners contended that so many corporates are ready to fund for it. The special bench constituted specifically for garbage management comprising Justice N Kumar and Justice B V Nagarathna observed:" We know that funds are available. But why don't you make plans for involving more corporates and public into the issue of garbage menace.? Management is also equally important."

The police also extended their support to remove the rowdy elements in the garbage crisis in the City. In the previous hearing, the citizens informed the court that the garbage clearing is getting hindered ude to the unholy nexus between rowdy elements, corporators and other politicians including MLA's. The Bench then directed the City Police Commissioner and other police officials to be present in the Court. The City Police Commissioner M N Reddy who was present in the court informed the court that the police force has no hesitation in extending support to BBMP for eliminating the rowdy elements. Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Alok Kumar was also present in the Court.

The bench also asked Bangalore Development Authority to earmark the Civic Amenity sites for garbage management. The court also asked the BBMP to arrange a programme to sensitise the corporators with special focus on solid waste management.BBMP also made a submission that out of their 47 solid waste management centres, 18 are functional while 29 will be set up shortly. The Special commissioner for solid waste Management Darpan Jain who was also present in the Court also said that biomining process is also under progress. The matter has been posted to September 1.
