IAF celebrates 81st anniversary

 Like the rest of their brethren across the country, the Men in Blue got together to celebrate the 81th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) at various air force units located in the city. Various functions and activities were organised on Tuesday to reflect the IAF’s rich past and heritage in the units to celebrate the Air Force Day. At the Headquarters Training Command, the day began with Air Marshal PS Gill, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Headquarter Training Command placing the wreath at the Headquarters Training Command War Memorial in remembrance of those who laid down their lives. All IAF personnel present observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to pay homage to the Martyrs.

Following this, the Chief of the Air Staff and AOC-in-C commendations were given away to the recipients. Air Force Station Chimney Hills, which is known as the Sentinels of the Southern Sky, a run for run, medical camp and musical evening for the Air Warriors and their families was organised.

In addition, an oath taking ceremony for all personnel’s was administered by the Station Commander Group Captain SK Jha.

At the Air Force Station Yelahanka, various activities such as essay writing, drawing, painting competitions, half marathon by Air Force Wives Welfare Association for ladies of Air Force personnel and Barakhana was organised.

Governor HR Bhardwaj also took part in the celebrations as he visited Command Hospital Air Force. During his address to the Air Warriors, Bhardwaj acknowledged the vital role played by the Armed Forces in guiding and uniting the nation during calamities and contingencies. He stated that welfare of defence personnel and their families are “issues close to his heart”.

Bhardwaj also visited the recently established state-of-art PET centre at the Oncology ward. The Governor’s wife Prafulata Bhardwaj, visited the ‘Air Force Wives Welfare Association’ unit of the Hospital and was pleased by the welfare activities undertaken.

At the paediatric ward, she interacted with the families of personnel admitted and distributed fruits and sweets.
