High Court gives notice to State for illegal mining activities

The high court issued a notice to the State Government in the matter pertaining to alleged illegal mining activities in and around Kanakpura, Ramnagar, Channapatana Taluks of Ramanagara district.

The petitioners B C Narayanaswamy and A C Shivaraju who are social activists allege that MLA D K Shivakumar and his family is involved in it. They filed a PIL in the court seeking action against the officials who are involved.

The petitioners submits that since a lot of complaints were received on alleged illegal mining, a committe headed by deputy conservator of forests was constituted. He has also submitted a report on the same. The petitioners also contend that even though there are strong proofs of illegal mining activities , no action has been initiated so far.

The petitioner also sought for an appropriate order stating any mining operation within forest ares as illegal.

They also sought for a CBI enquiry against people who are involved in the case. The court on Monday issued notice to State and other respondents
