The fight for the possession of room number 340 between social welfare minister H Anjaneya and minister for energy DK Shivakumar seems to have been settled in minister Anjaneya’s favour.

On Sunday, PWD officials demolished the wall in the room which had become a bone of contention between Anjaneya and the department of administrative reforms (DPAR),who were against the demolition. The demolition has embarrassed the ruling Congress, as the minister dared to demolish a wall in Vidhana Soudha.

The minister reportedly asked PWD officials to carry out the demolition work on Sunday since Vidhana Soudha is off-limits for the media. Sources said PWD officials tore down the wall between room number 340 and 341 and carried out renovation work the whole day.

The renovation work, which includes constructing a toilet, flooring, furniture, reportedly costs Rs9 lakh.

Anjaneya, who shifted to the room on Friday as he feared Shivakumar would occupy it before him, had on Saturday issued orders to PWD officials to break the wall between 340 and 340 (A).

Shiva vs Anjaneya

Shivakumar, a highly superstitious man and a strong believer in the power of astrology and vaastu, and Anjaneya, a close confidant of Siddaramaiah, have been fighting for the same room in Vidhana Soudha.

Anjaneya wanted the room, located on the third floor, since he reportedly wanted more space to work, whereas Shivakumar coveted the room because of its favourable vaastu.

Anjaneya had applied and had been allotted the rooms 340 and 340 A, but Anjaneya did not shift as he wanted the wall between the rooms to be torn down.

But DPAR officials did not agree to the request as many disputes had broken out between in the past over similar requests.
