Government all fine with companies slacking on tenders

Chief minister promises to streamline process of tendering projects by penalising, blacklisting defaulters.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah stated in the legislative council on Thursday that he would streamline the implementation of development projects in the state.

Addressing the issue of government projects failing to materialise in time, Siddaramaiah said he would initiate steps like blacklisting and imposing fines on companies that cause the undue delay.

Congress MLC K Govindaraj, who raised the issue in the council, insisted that the efficiency and background information of companies must be scrutinised before awarding project to them. The CM responded to it in the affirmative.

Bangalore-Mysore highway widening: Siddaramaiah stated that the road widening work at the entry and exit points on the Bangalore-Mysore highway will be completed by October 31. The work, which commenced on May 2010, was taken up at a cost of Rs18 crore, the CM said, adding it got delayed as private owners along the highway declined to give up their property. The issue is pending in the court.

Metro mess

The CM also assured in council that he would instruct the Metro, BDA and BBMP to develop the roads affected by the metro construction work.

Canteen for policemen: Home minister KJ George said the department would soon establish a canteen for policemen, on the lines of army canteens, where they can avail articles free of tax. Initially, the canteen would be started in Bangalore and later be established across the state, he stated.

Answering a question by JD(S) MLC Maritibbe Gowda, he stated that, CM Siddaramaiah has made provision for this in the budget, along with announcements regarding appointment of about 8,000 policemen and constructing 10,000 houses for the force.

Absconding vets to be dismissed
Animal husbandry minister TB Jayachandra stated that the department would dismiss eight veterinary doctors, who have been absconding from work for the past few years. He explained that there is an acute shortage of veterinary doctors in the state. He added that 13 veterinary doctors from the state, who have merged their services with other departments, will be redirected. Meanwhile, JD(S) leader Basavaraj Horatti pointed out that veterinary doctors were deputed by the government to other plum posts, despite the shortage. Jayachandra assured immediate action in this regard.

Culprits who robbed SI at large
Meanwhile, opposition leaders pulled up the Congress government for not being able to arrest the culprits who robbed a sub-inspector and his friend at gun point on July 19. BJP MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik stated that the incident has instilled fear in people and that the department will have to act swiftly in this regard. Home minister KJ George said he will do the needful.
