To make earth-friendly living an everyday choice for everyone, this weekend The Alternative, a new media platform for sustainable living, brings  together all kinds of sustainable products under one roof at The Green Bazaar (TGB).

On a larger scale than the recently held Oota From Your Thota organised by the Garden City Farmers, TGB will have over 100 products, including organic food, green lifestyle products, waste and water management solutions, recycled and upcycled products, natural personal care and wellness, chemical-free kitchen and household utilities, smart devices, urban gardening solutions, and children’s books.

Aarti Mohan, editor, The Alternative explained that the idea of TGB was to make sustainable living accessible enough so that people can engage with it everyday, till it becomes a regular way of life.

“The idea is to bring everything sustainable, ethical and earth-friendly under one roof. We’ll hold one every month on a weekend, so that you can plan ahead, do your shopping and have a good time. You can move away from what you ought to do, and enjoy the experience of sustainability,” said Mohan.

This is the second edition of TGB, and one of its highlights is a special focus on children.
There will be two storytelling workshops: ‘Under The Story Tree’ with Vikram Sridhar of Tahatto, a session where children can make up their own folk tales, and ‘Li’l stories of India’, a trivia quiz by Pika Nani, author of Little Indians. Children will also be taught to make eco-friendly Ganeshas and be audience to a panel discussion on how to get children to read more.

There will be a DIY workshop for grownups on bicycling in the city by Mayank Rungta, along with RideACycleFoundation and Bums on The Saddle.

To organise this two-day event, The Alternative has partnered with International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA), Second To None community and Hippocampus Children’s Centre.

ICCOA has been functioning as an umbrella organisation for all organic stakeholders in India since 2003. This edition of the Bazaar, they will be bringing some organic farmers from different parts of Karnataka and as well as retainers.
