First-of-its-kind smart classes for students launched

As an initial plan, 50 colleges have created their own websites till date and with time all the 411 government colleges will have websites of their own.

The first-of-its-kind initiative of smart classes for students was inaugurated in Bangalore on Friday. Dr Kasturirangan, chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University and chairman of Karnataka Knowledge Commission inaugurated the smart classes at Government Science College. The Department of Collegiate Education has made arrangements to start smart classes and virtual classes at nearly 411 government colleges, across the state.

Kasturirangan on the occasion advised students to utilise the facilities fully available at these colleges. As an initial plan, 50 colleges have created their own websites till date and with time all the 411 government colleges will have websites of their own. Kasturirangan also said that the government, through the Knowledge Commission, wanted to have State Knowledge Network set up shortly.

Describing the inauguration of smart classes and virtual classes as a historical event, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism RV Deshpande appealed lecturers to give importance for innovation and urged the education department to avail the benefits of technology provided to them. Deshpande also informed that the government is working towards making verification of documents available online for the Common Entrance Test so that students don't have to stand in long queues which wastes lot of time.
