The proposed equity partnership between Etihad and Jet Airways would be sealed in the next 15 days, Union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh said here on Wednesday.

He was speaking with reporters on the sidelines of Aero India 2013. The proposed equity partnership is expected to result in Etihad picking up 24% stake worth $1.3-1.4 billion in Jet.

Asked if the national carrier, Air India, would be compensated by Boeing for the grounding of the Dreamliner787 aircraft, the minister said: “Our only concern on the Dreamliner is how soon it will be resolved. There will definitely be compensation to airlines until the FAA and DGCA certification.”

He also said that Air India is yet to get its seventh Dreamliner, which was scheduled to be delivered by end-January.
Air India has grounded six Dreamliners since January 17 following a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

He added that the GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN) navigation system would be made operational by Airports Authority of India by July this year.

Singh said that the country’s civil aviation sector was poised to grow in the years to come as about 180 million domestic passengers and 80 million international passengers would be travelling annum in the next 10 years.
