The state department of higher education has taken a serious note of the issue of custodians collecting money from students to award marks; the department has directed the Bangalore University to re-shuffle the custodians.
The issue of corrupt practices of the BU’s custodians regarding examinations was raised in the academic council meeting of the university on Friday. H Karan Kumar, member of the council, brought the issue to the notice of the university along with the evidence. Following that, all the members demanded action against the tainted custodians.
Following the media reports on Saturday, higher education minister CT Ravi directed the BU to issue notice to all the tainted custodians and also ordered the university to withdraw them and appoint new custodians.
Ravi told DNA, “I also asked the (acting) vice-chancellor to submit a detailed report on this. How can we entertain such a practice in the university! It is very unfortunate.”
As per the evidence produced by the member, the malpractice had been going on at five evaluation centres. They are Science evaluation centre at Maharani’s College: The custodian is Muniraju of Govt First Grade College, Hosakote and the assistant custodian is Manjunatha N, a lecturer at Maharani’s College
Commerce (III & VI Semesters) evaluation centre at United Mission’s Degree College: The custodian is Ramana Reddy, Principal (I/c) of Govt First Grade College, Anekal, and the assistant custodians are Govinda Shetty of Govt First Grade College, Hosakote, and MN Nagaraj of Govt Arts and Science College, Bangalore.
BCA evaluation centre at Mariyappa College, Rajajinagar: This college was blacklisted earlier too. The custodian-cum-co-ordinator is Lokesh, the principal of Mariappa College. The assistant custodian is Nagaraj, a lecturer in Mariappa College.
City College and Venkateshwara College (Madiwala): These college were blacklisted for evaluation irregularities earlier too.
