Film stars seem to be controversy’s favourite children. After Kannada actress Pooja Gandhi, who broke up with fiancé Anand Gowda, it is Duniya Vijay who is now courting trouble. The actor is apparently asking for divorce from his wife of 14 years, Nagarathna, and filed a petition for the same at the family court on Thursday.
His wife, however, is not thinking on the same lines. While Vijay has apparently filed for divorce following her “misconduct with his parents”, Nagarathna rejected the claim and in turn accused his friends of misleading him. And even as she refused to comply with his demands, Nagarathna said that there are certain things that she cannot reveal at this point but there is no way that she is going to give Vijay a divorce. The news about the discord in their relationship may have come out in the open now, but the couple have not been in good terms for a while is what a few members of the film fraternity claim.
“Nagarathna was told that she could continue to stay with him in his house along with their three children even after the divorce. Vijay is also said to have promised to take care of all their needs. But she refused to budge from her stand for reasons best known to her,” says a source, on conditions of anonymity.
It is not the first time that Vijay’s marital life has come under the scanner. Earlier, it was his alleged affair and marriage to actress Shuba Punja that made headlines. But a few months later news started trickling in that the actors had decided to “call off their relationship”.
“Things had started to look better for Nagarathna and Vijay and the couple even looked happy during the recent launch of Jayammana Maga, Vijay’s first home production. But things turned for the worse soon after,” adds the source.
Reportedly, Vijay told his friends that it is his wife’s indifference to him and his mother that made him file for divorce. However, a few wagging tongues suggest that a heroine with whom Vijay is allegedly having an affair is behind the growing rift between husband and wife. When we tried to reach Vijay for his side of the story, he responded with a text message that read: Sorry, I’m busy, will call back later.
