Police are on the lookout for two people who stole the motorcycle of a racing champion from his car driver after feeding his booze.
GR Santosh, winner of Yamaha YZF R15 Novice Race held in Chennai and Coimbatore in 2010, was shocked when his car driver Ashok took the bike without his knowledge for visiting his ailing mother-in-law on Wednesday evening. But he never thought it would be stolen.
“After I won the national-level racing championship, Yamaha company gave away the Yamaha SZX bike to me as the prize. It carries Uttar Pradesh’s registration number,” said Santosh for whom the motorcycle was more than a vehicle.
“I always kept it in my house as it was very precious to me. And I lost it on Wednesday night because of my drunken driver,” he said tearfully.
He described to the police the circumstance in which he lost the bike.
Ashok, who lives in Nandini Layout and runs a taxi for him, came to him on Wednesday evening seeking permission for leave work early as his mother-in-law fell ill in her home in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Santosh gave him permission but he never suspected that Ashok would be using his bike to ride home.
He became angry and called Ashok on his mobile phone which was, however, switched off.
On Thursday morning, he got a call from Ashok who remorsely told him that the bike was stolen by two strangers he met on the road near Nagarabhavi after he fell off the bike under the influence of alcohol.
According to Ashok, they took him to a bar near Magadi Road and offered him more drinks. When he sozzled himself into a nice coma, they took away his motorcycle keys and cell phone and sped away. On hearing the news of the bike theft, Santosh went to the bar and inquired the employees.
The bar had installed a CCTV camera to monitor the movements of visitors and Santosh got a few footages showing the two suspects with Ashok. He later handed them over to Kamakshipalya police for investigation.
The police confirmed the incident and said they would nab the duo soon.
