Congressman DK Shivakumar on Wednesday questioned the morality of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda for forging an alliance with the BJP in the by-polls to the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha seat.

Shivakumar stated that though former MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, was not willing to contest in the by-polls, the Gowda family forced her to participate to stunt his political growth.

Taking part in an interaction at the Press Club, Shivakumar said people were confused with Deve Gowda hobnobbing with the BJP.

Defending his move to field his brother DK Suresh as the Congress candidate for the by-polls, Shivakumar said: “My brother did not get selected on influence. The party has chosen to field him after the survey and opinions of party workers.”

He also accused the JD(S) and the BJP workers of ignoring the interests of lakhs of party workers for personal gains. He defended seeking support from former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and Samajwadi party MLA CP Yogeshwar. At the centre, SP is supporting the UPA government. A similar arrangement can be made here as well, he said.
