The police gunned down notorious criminal Bettanagere Seena in an encounter past year. Now, his aides have ‘revived’ him, using his name to extort money from businessmen of the area.

Rumours are doing rounds in the hometown of the goon that in reality, he was not killed in the ‘encounter’. They say his friends in the police helped him escape, killed someone else and falsely told the world Seena had been felled.
Many in Nelamangala have bought this theory. They believe Seena has gone underground and is pulling strings from there.

The people of the area told dna that Seena’s mother and sister regularly receive calls from him. They pointed out that the goon’s portrait in his house has not been garlanded as his family knows he is alive and kicking.

The people, requesting their names be withheld, claimed that some even dug up the grave where Seena was supposedly buried, only to find nothing. They say this factoid has lent further credence to the theory that the feared goon is alive.
Rubbish, say police

The police rubbish each and every aspect of the ‘Seena is alive’ theory. One senior officer said the goon’s aides are spreading the rumour to instil his fear in the heart of realtors, to extort money. The officer said Seena’s henchmen figured out that the only way they could make money after the encounter of their leader was to circulate rumours of him being alive. Using Seena’s name, his men are extorting protection money from businessmen in the area, the police officer said.

Another police officer said the police had handed over Seena’s body to his family, who had identified it as his. He added that the criminal’s final rites were performed under full police security. He said the police would act against those who are spreading rumours that Seena is alive.
