The Lokayukta court hearing a complaint against Adi Chunchangiri Mahasamsthana has directed the Lokayukta police to probe the alleged misuse of land by the mutt.

The court has asked the Lokayukta police to submit the inquiry report by July 13. It ordered the inquiry after receiving a complaint from Laxminarayana against Shekar Swamy, junior to the mutt’s head Balagangadharanath seer.

The mutt has been accused of violating the government land allotment rules and using the property for commercial purposes.

The 15.31 acres of government land in Hulimavu on Bannerghatta Road was allotted to the mutt to set up an international spiritual centre and Ayurveda hospital. But the district administration found that an educational institution — BGS National Public School — was being run on the land without the government’s permission, contended Laxminarayana.

The complainant contended that the land should not be used for other purposes without permission. Transfer of ownership of the land could not be done at any point in favour of the mutt. Mutt administration will have to pay the prescribed land conversion fee. No structures should be put up without the approval of local planning authorities, contended the complainant.

The government had allotted the land to Sri Ramalingaswamy Temple Trust in 1981 and later re-allotted it to Adi Chunchanagiri Mutt in April 1997 for setting up an international spiritual/religious centre and Ayurveda hospital. The government had even imposed certain conditions that the given land should not be used for commercial activities without the approval of authorities concerned.
