Shivashankar, 41, is a head constable working for Koramangala police station. He has been hospitalised with fracture in his ankle and other injuries. A native of Anekal, Shivashankar was staying with his family in Adugodi police quarters.

According to the police, the girls staying in the hostel situated in the college premises called up the police station around 5 am and told that two thieves had entered the hostel. The message was passed to Shivashankar and constable Narasimhamurthy, who were patrolling in the same area. The duo reached the spot in five minutes and based on the information given by the inmates, they started looking for the thieves.

"There is an auditorium in the third floor of the college and it's roof is made of plaster of paris. The duo went over it in search of the thieves and meanwhile the roof broke and Shivashankar fell from about a height of 15 feet. He fell inside the auditorium. On noticing this, Narasimhamurthy informed the staff in the police station. Many more staff rushed to the spot. By this time, the thieves had escaped," the police added.

"The other policemen broke open the lock of the auditorium and found their colleague on the auditorium floor. They rushed him to St. John's hospital and then to Hosmat hospital. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU and is out of danger," the police added. Further investigations are on.
