Congress MLA booked for assaulting constable in Bangalore

Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, of Hungund Constituency, was booked for allegedly attacking a night beat constable of Cubbon Park police station. The attack occured in the wee hours of Wednesday, while Kashappanavar was having birthday party along with fellow MLAs and supporters beyond the stipulated time limit of 11.30 pm.

After the police book the case on this incident, it is said that the MLA and his friends even called the local police inspector and threatened him for booing case and not allowing them to having birthday party. This incident has embarrassed the ruling Congress government as the state legislative sessions are going on. The opposition leaders are now preparing grounds to attack the government in maintaining the law and order situation in city.

The trouble broke out when Vijayananda was celebrating his birth day along with his friends and supporters at the Sky Bar in the 16th floor of UB City beyond the permissible time limit. It is said that they were partying along with consumption of alcohol. On receiving the information that the bar was open beyond stipulated time, senior police officer from Cubbon Park police station had sent Kiran Kumar, a police constable and one more constable who were patrolling in their 'Cheetah' to check the spot.

On reaching the spot Kiran found that the party was still on. Following the protocol, Kiran starting clicking pictures in his camera, and it was then on noticing supporters of Vijayanand attacked and assaulted Kiran and also snatched his phone. Since it was difficult to handle the ruckus, Kiran came back to the station and filed complaint under section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) against a rowdy sheeter Somashekhar along with five others for the attack.

Meanwhile, it was also learnt that MLA Vijayananda Kashappanavar along with three other MLAs were (including a son of a former chief minister) also present at the spot where the incident took place. However, City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar denied having any information in this regard. Cubbon Park police have summoned the security staff of the Sky bar for questioning. The police have also asked the management to provide the CCTV footage for further investigations.

Police said that the rowdy-sheeter Somashekhar, the associate of MLA Vijayanand has been accused of other crimes in city. It is alleged that, he attacked and stabbed a person by name Nuthan Hegde in a star hotel in 2007. Police commissioner Auradkar said that the police have booked case against Somashekhar and others and investigating.
