Burglars escape with Rs20 lakh worth gold and diamond jewellery in Bangalore

Unidentified miscreants broke into the house of an industrialist and decamped with gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs20 lakh in Banashankari police station limits on Saturday evening.

The incident took place in the house of BV Kumar at Padmanabhanagar 11th Main. He is an industrialist and runs an educational institute in Malleswaram. Police said Kumar, along with his family, had gone out for shopping at Jayanagar shopping complex at 7 pm. When they returned home about 10 pm, they found the lock of the rear door of the house was broke open.

They also found that the miscreants had broken into an almirah in the room and had escaped with gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs20 lakh.

Later, Kumar filed a case with the Banashankari police, who are investigating the case.

Similar audacious incidents in Bangalore in 2014

*A retired SBM manager, Uday Raj Singh (63), was murdered in his house in Lakkasandra by a gang of seven men on March 26. Apparently, Singh, who had a collection of jewellery items, wanted to sell his necklace which would have fetched him huge money. The gangsters, posing as customers, entered his house and told him they were keen to buy the necklace. Singh showed them a photograph of the necklace but they insisted on seeing the original piece. When Singh refused, they stabbed him to death and his wife Susheel, who tried to resist, was also injured in the process.

*A 70-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment in Rajarajeshwari nagar on March 22. She was murdered for gain by her cousin's wife and two others. The accused were arrested four days later.

*A 73-year-old retired defence scientist and his wife were found murdered at their house in OMBR Layout near Kasturi Nagar in Ramamurthy Nagar on March 4. Pattabhi Raman Naidu and Indira hailed from Tirupati and were settled in the city from many years. The assailants had attacked the couple with a blunt weapon. Some valuables were missing from the house.

*Two men assaulted the guard of an ATM kiosk on February 15 and made an aborted attempt to steal cash from the machine. They dropped their plan and fled the scene, as vehicle movement increased near the kiosk. The incident was reported at ICICI bank's ATM kiosk on Tigalarapalya Main Road in Tavarekere police station limits on the outskirts of the city.

*A woman was found murdered at her house in Kaverinagar on January 25 morning. Jayamma, 32, was a native of Andhra Pradesh and worked as a labourer. Police said the murder came to light when Jayamma's house owner went to her house the followind day. "She was said to be a relation with Nagararaju, who is also a labourer. He often visited her house. He is suspected to be involved in her murder," the police said.

*A 57-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in Sunkadakate on January 4. Revati B was alone at her house, as her husband Balasubramanian, a retired bank official who is currently working at Byappanahalli Namma Metro station, had gone to office.
