The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, demanded a CBI probe against the re-modification and de-notification decision of 541 acres of land in Arkavathy layout, developed by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

As soon as the assembly session began, the BJP legislators alleged that chief minister Siddaramaiah had violated the High Court guidelines, by illegally de-notifying 541 acres of land to form the Arkavathy layout.

Siddaramaiah defended the government and refuted the opposition's allegation. The CM said that the government has not violated any rule in Arkavathy layout case. "The government is ready for any kind of inquiry, including the CID, judicial or even a legislative committee body,'' the CM said.

But the opposition leaders were not satisfied with the CM's reply, and stuck to their demand of a CBI probe, and continued creating a chaos in the House. This led to heated arguments between the ruling and opposition party members, forcing Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa to adjourn the session to Monday.

After the assembly session was adjourned, Siddaramaiah addressed the media and claimed that not even a single acre of land was de-notified after Congress came in to power. He said that the BJP's allegations are baseless and the government had not de-notified any land in Arkavathy layout.

"After the announcement of by-elections, BJP is looking for cheap publicity, by resorting to such false allegations against the Congress government. The previous BJP government had not distributed a single site to the beneficiaries in Arkavathy layout. But after the Congress came to power, we started distributing 11,000 sites in Arkavathy layout. However, the BJP is trying to protect the real estate mafia, instead of distributing the sites to the allottees" he said.
