BBMP tax inspector held on rape charges

A tax inspector of BBMP Amruthahalli sub-division office has been arrested by the Yelahanka New Town police, for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman after promising to marry her.

The accused, Raghavendra Badiger, 35, is a resident of Yelahanka New Town and a native of Gadag. He is married with a child.

According to the police, Badiger came in contact with the woman about three years ago. A native of Chitradurga, she stays in a paying guest accommodation in Yelahanka New Town and works in a private firm. The duo fell in love with each other and Badiger allegedly did not reveal that he was married. Since the last two years, they were involved in physical relationship, as Badiger promised to marry her. The woman began persuading him for marriage since the last few months, but he kept refusing.

"On Saturday, the duo were going to a temple in Nelamangala in a car. There was a quarrel between them and she got down at the toll gate in Peenya, after which both started fighting on the road. The locals informed the Peenya police, who rushed to the spot and took them both to the police station. Upon inquiring both, the Peenya police informed the Yelahanka New Town police, following which the woman filed a rape and cheating case against Badiger," the police said. Further investigations are on.
