The administrator of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) TM Vijaya Bhaskar is all set to engage a private agency to handle his Twitter account. Bhaskar had opened a Twitter account on April 24 and asked the public to use it for lodging complaints about poor infrastructure and civic issues.
The administrators Twitter account has garnered more than 1,000 followers within the last three days. “It crossed 1,100-mark on April 27. I have been receiving more than 300 complaints through this mode of communication,’’ said Bhaskar.
Speaking with iamin about who manages this account, Bhaskar said, “As of now, I have a BBMP employee handling it. I am planning to engage a private agency for this purpose. We are in talks with an agency and I think the deal will be finalised within the next few days,’’ he said.
He also expressed confidence in coming up with a solution for tackling the garbage menace, that is only growing to become a major issue in the city. “I came to know that the garbage contractors had not been paid for four to five months in some wards. I have made arrangements to clear the arrears till February end. I am planning to meet these contractors this evening, since I want to make it clear to them that negligence in clearing garbage will not be tolerated. It is their responsibility to clear garbage in the city,’’ he said.
The administrator has already advised all joint commissioners of eight zones of BBMP to open Twitter accounts for the benefit of citizens. Recently, G Kumara Nayak, the newly appointed BBMP commissioner, had also been lauded for his efforts to reach out to the public through his Twitter account.
