BBBMP conduct health camp for dengue at Kadhirenpalaya

Following the reports of suspected dengue death in Kadhirenpalaya on Wednesday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) health officials had organised for a health camp to screen all those with symptomatic fever in Kadhirenpalaya on Friday. Taking cognisance of the situation Health Minister UT Khader had also visited the area in the morning and spoke to the residents.

Two deceased were identified as 67-year-old Ravanaiah and 12-year-old Deepika who were receiving treatment at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Deepika was later shifted to MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital. The Pourakarmikas quarters in Kadirenahalli has about 146 families. About 10-15 of the residents have been admitted at different hospitals in city with suspected dengue. According to one of the resident of the quarters, the area is in unhygienic condition, for several years the drainage water passing through is open for the past several years.

Meanwhile, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana and City Mayor B S Sathyanarayana had visited the area on Thursday and directed the palike health department to conduct health camp.

When contacted, Dr Manoranjan Hegde, Project Director, Communicable Diseases, BBMP, said, "We have received the blood sample report for both Deepika and Ravanaiah and both the reports was negative for dengue. Ravanaiah was an alcoholic. However, BBMP has been taking all measures to control dengue. Regular spraying and source reduction is being conducted at all the BBMP wards. "
