In front of a residential lane in Shivajinagar on 2nd cross, garbage is dumped, scrap cars are parked, and stray dogs roam.

There has been a number of dengue cases in this area. The residents have complained several times but their complaints are not being taken seriously.

There is an open canal and nearby is a wide area used as a dumping ground. Right in front of the garbage is a residential lane and next to the open canal is St Mary’s school.

Due to garbage, many residents have been affected by dengue.

Due to the canal, school authorities have closed the gate next to it.

All students use the other gate that leads to traffic. Moreover, there are many scrap vehicles parked in the area which do not belong to residents.

“Several times, we have gone to the corporator, but in vain. The authorities accept the complaints but don’t take any action or they don’t let us lodge complaints,” said Parvez Pasha, a resident.

“My family members keep falling sick. The Egg Centre next door has been creating a mess for us. It cannot be placed in a residential area but there is no one to take action against it,” said Rajanna, another resident.

Grieving about the condition, a resident Fareeda said: “This place cannot be made as the only garbage dumping spot in the area as it is a residential lane. We find it difficult to live here.”

“My child studies in St Mary’s School. The fear of him accidentally falling into the canal haunts me because the school gate is right next to the canal. It also creates an unhygienic atmosphere for students to study,” said Rosina, a parent.

When asked about the issues the area is facing, joint commissioner Venkateshappa said, “I’ll inspect this place tomorrow”.

DCP Lokesh Kumar said, “There is not sufficient place to dump the scrap cars elsewhere. We are trying to find one.”

Local corporator Gunna Shekhar said, “It is not in my hands as it is the only dumping place in the whole area. I have informed the traffic police about the scrap cars a month back and the tender is under process.”
