Bangalore: Use high beam, get penalised

City traffic police will impose a penalty of Rs100 on motorists who use high beam light, as it often causes road accidents at night.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic) MA Saleem has requested Bangaloreans not to use high beam light as it gets into the eyes of the motorist coming from the opposite direction, blinding him/her temporarily and thus leading to accidents.

Using high beam was banned in the city in the year 2003. Saleem said those caught using high beam light would have to cough up `100 as fine.

He said that till the end of March this year, the city traffic police had booked 5,139 people for using high beam light.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths because of road accidents has come came down in the first quarter of this year as compared with last year.

Last year, 204 persons were killed in road accidents in the first three month, whereas this year saw 185 deaths in the same
period.

An officer with the city traffic department said that their efforts to reduce the number of road accidents were showing results and the efforts would continue in the coming months.
