Traffic in Bangalore, Mysore and all other tier-II cities will have to be developed on a global scale, owing to the multifold increase in the volume of vehicles entering the roads every day, said Mysore commissioner of police MA Saleem.

“The stress should be on enforcement, evolving engineering solutions and driving discipline,” he said, while speaking to dna after taking charge of his office.

“Bangalore needs more engineering solutions like the ‘yield’ system that has been created in front of Windsor Manor. In my tenure as the additional commissioner of traffic and security, I found that the traffic problem was acute in Bangalore basically due to the high volume.

“BBMP and BDA are working on engineering solutions to ease the traffic problem and I only wish that the solutions are executed quickly as the volume of traffic is increasing day by day,” he said.

“However, in cities like Mysore, the problem is with the enforcement. I suspect this is the case in many other tier II cities as well. Motorists have scant respect for traffic rules and enforcement is not up to the mark due to a few bottlenecks in the traffic management systems in place.

“My lookout for Mysore traffic will be to strengthen the enforcement through public participation and creating awareness in improving the traffic conditions,” he offered.

A few NGOs and road users’ associations were eager to meet the new commissioner and according to sources in the commissioner’s office, a series of meetings and discussions would take place in the coming days to make Mysore the best managed tier II city, traffic wise.
