With each passing year, the nanotechnology event in the city seems to be getting bigger. This time, it’s getting an international flavour.

Though scientists, researchers, corporates, professors and students from Bangalore and the country will be thronging in large numbers, the event this time is expected to attract delegates from Germany, Korea, Switzerland, Singapore and China, among others.

Last year, which hosted the fifth edition of the event, saw participation from 12 countries, including France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Japan, the UK, the US and Italy.

According to CNR Rao, chairman, Karnataka’s Vision group on nanotechnology, Bangalore is the nano capital of India, with a lot of research happening here in sectors like bio-medical nanotech, bio-nanotech etc.

“We are hoping to see not just the industry and researchers, but also academics, students, startups from India and other countries come and engage on a common platform,” says Rao.

Kylie Bell, investment commissioner from the Australian Trade Commission, says they are looking forward to participating in the conference. “Australia has 85 companies engaged in nanotechnology in areas like medical devices, healthcare, materials. Lots of research is happening there. So we would look at getting a delegation here.”

Pioh Cho, president and CEO of Genco, a Korean nanotechnology firm, says he would consider participating in the event to get exposure to players from other countries.

To attract more students, the event this year will begin with a tutorial on latest trends in nanotechnology. Rao says this is mainly for students who have graduated in science or engineering, or doctoral and post-doctoral research students. Likewise, entrepreneurs will get a platform to showcase their work and innovations, and get connected with investors, and venture capitalists.
