Bangalore police on Monday held a seminar to prevent child abuse and to promote sensitivity among the police regarding cases of sexual assault.

Police Commissioner MN Reddi said, "There is also a need to create better sensitivity among the police officers. There is always a scope to improve the sensitivity levels so that they can deal with the problems faced by the children.

Explaining the purpose of the workshop Reddi said, "It is basically to upgrade the awareness and knowledge in the police officers about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act. And also to help them understand the processes and steps that are to be taken as per law in case of an offence reported about the sexual abuse of a child, be it a boy or a girl." The workshop was organised today in collaboration with the Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) and World Vision NGO.

It is not for the first time that we are holding this time but we are doing it as a refresher course," he added.

On July 2, two gym instructors had allegedly raped a minor girl inside the premises of Bangalore's Vibgyor School when she had gone to the washroom.

Bangalore has witnessed a slew of protests after the shocking incident came to light. The earlier Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar also faced the heat and was replaced by MN Reddi.
