For many, a missed call has been the preferred mode of communication. A missed call was essentially a message to the other person to call you back. Now, a new service has made it possible to talk to someone for free through a missed call. And the other person doesn't need to use up his/her talktime.
Named Freekall, this service lets two people talk for free for 12 minutes at a stretch. A team of three young techies from Bangalore is behind the project, which, they claim, is the first of its kind in India. Yashas C Shekar, Vijaykumar Umaluti and Sandesh E say their idea has its roots in cloud telephony. Shekar said the project is the brainchild of Umaluti, an alumnus of MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology.
Umaluti, chief operating officer of Freekall Cloud Technology, said their dream required an investment of Rs6 lakh. So far, they have been able to get one advertiser.
He said they would generate revenue through 10-second audio advertisements that would play every two minutes during the free call.
He said Freekall facility can be used even with a basic mobile phone.
Umaluti underlined that Freekall has a policy on user privacy, which means they do not record any conversation.
