Here is some good news for emerging entrepreneurs. You can now build apps on Aadhaar platform. Nasscom Product Council on Tuesday announced the launch of the Aadhaar Diffusion Project in collaboration with UIDAI to accelerate the development of applications and services that leverage the Aadhaar identity infrastructure.

The idea behind the project is to nurture an innovation ecosystem to evangelise and support start-ups as well as accelerate development of applications and services.

“We want Aadhaar to build as an open platform wherein apps and products can be built. I want young entrepreneurs to use this and thrive innovation in the country,” says Nandan Nilekani, chairman, UIDAI.

The platform aspires to cater to independent software vendors, technology start-ups and academia.

“The goal is to achieve widespread diffusion of Aadhaar platform knowledge across new entrepreneurial ventures  and existing software companies to assist and nurture Aadhaar capabilities across a broad range of software applications and services to benefit residents, government and enterprises,” he says.

The platform is also looking at funding some of the start-ups at least during the initial stage.
