India’s Mars Orbiter spacecraft, launched earlier this month, has captured the first image of Earth.
The image of Earth captured by Mars Color Camera (MCC), one of the five payloads onboard the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft, was taken on Nov 19 at 1.50pm from an altitude of 67,975km.

In the image, one can see the Indian sub-continent, the Middle-East, part of Africa along with the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.

“We have a nice little thing to share with all of you... yesterday in the process of testing our payloads we turned the Mars Color Camera towards the Earth and switched it on... and here is the first ever image of Earth taken by MCC. We are certain we’re going to get some great shots in the orbit of Mars,” stated a post by the space agency.

The main objective of the MCC is to capture images and provide information about the surface features and composition of Martian surface. Isro says the images capture by the MCC will useful to monitor the dynamic events and weather of Mars.
