Senior BJP leaders criticised the governor’s address to the joint session of legislature, claiming that he was crediting the Congress government with the decisions the previous dispensation had taken.

Speaking to presspersons, BJP’s legislature leader in the assembly and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar termed the governor’s address as old wine in new bottle. He noted that governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj spoke about renaming Bengaluru International Airport after the city’s founder, Kempegowda. He underlined that it was the BJP government that had set the ball rolling in this regard during BS Yeddyurappa’s tenure as the chief minister.

Shettar said the Congress government was claiming credit for the welfare schemes planned during the BJP’s regime. He chided the government for not implementing the decisions taken during the winter session in Belgaum and for not attending to farmers’ problems. Citing the recent shootout in Gulbarga, he said law and order situation has gone bad in the state.

Former deputy chief minister R Ashoka said the police had thrown caution to the wind during the shootout. He said the authorities concerned are answerable to the wife of late sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande. He noted that home minister KJ George had not yet convened a high-level meeting of police officials till now. Further, he pointed out that the man who had attacked and severely injured a woman in an ATM kiosk two months ago was still at large.

JD(S)’s legislature leader HD Kumaraswamy described the governor’s address as dull, noting that it did not contain any new announcement. He said even chief minister Siddaramaiah was sleeping when Bhardwaj was speaking, adding that this illustrated how engaging the governor’s address was.
