Several pro-Kannada organisations have called for Bangalore Bandh on Thursday to mark the rising incidents of sexual offenses against women and children and to protest against Marathi community in Belgaum.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation(BMTC) buses will be deputed, based on the commuters response, and as compared to regular days, the number of buses will be lesser.

"We have taken all the essential measures in terms of mobilising maximum amount of force -- both civil as well as armed -- from the city police, also the home guards. Nearly 1000 home guards will be on duty tomorrow," City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told reporters.

"Apart from city police, we are also getting two companies of central reserve forces. We expect that we will be able to handle the 'Bangalore bandh' tomorrow," he added.

Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) said we will take strict action against those who involve in untoward incidents. "We may also book case on a person who behave badly, and take action under Goonda Act. All our personnel's will be involved in maintenance of tight security from today evening itself."

However, the government is yet to declare an official holiday. According to Mohammed Mohsin, commissioner of public instruction, the government has not declared any holiday on Thursday to schools in the city in view of the Bangalore Bandh.

"The government has not declared holiday, but the private school managements based on their prerogative may declare holiday", added Mohsin.

Satya Murthy S, the vice president of Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements Association said, "The school management might take the decision to declare a holiday, purely based on the merit of the management."

However several schools across the city have declared holiday citing transport and safety of children as reasons.
