The ongoing tunneling work of Namma Metro is expected to be completed by September 2014 and commercial operations to commence by March 2015, according to Pradeep Singh Kharola, managing director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Speaking with mediapersons during a visit to Metro underground works at Shiva Shankar Circle in the city, Kharola said the BMRCL needed six months to complete track and construction of stations.

“We are expecting to commence commercial operations by March 2015. The commercial operations between Malleswaram and Peenya will begin in December and between Peenya and Hesaraghatta by March 2014,’’ he said. Work on the tunnel between KR Market and Majestic intersection has begun, he added.

Expressing happiness over the progress of metro work in the city, transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said the construction of Metro station work at KR Market is in progress.

“I want the metro work to be completed on time and I want to appreciate BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola and his team for the progress of the work,’’ the minister said.

Speaking on the occasion, Bangalore South MP Ananth Kumar demanded that the state government and the BMRCL provide multi-access connectivity to the Bengaluru International Airport since the proposed high-speed rail (HSR) facility would not be a viable option.

“The HSR requires passengers to come to the Minsk Square from all parts of the city to go to the airport. It will not be a viable option. So, I want the state government and the authorities concerned to facilitate viable option for the benefit of public,’’ Kumar said. He demanded that the authorities provide metro connectivity to the airport.

“I want the authorities to include the proposal of connecting Nagavara with the Indian Air Force station on the airport road in the Metro phase III plan,’’ he said.
