Residents of the railway quarters situated adjacent to the Bangalore city railway station had a close shave on Sunday as coaches of the Bangalore-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express was within striking distance from the quarters after the coaches derailed.

About 3.15pm, a generator car and two AC 3-tier coaches of the Rajdhani Express got off the track and derailed while being shunted from the city railway station’s maintenance pit.

The derailed coaches then ploughed through a compound wall separating the city railway station and the railway quarters.

One of the coaches had fallen on the road in front of the quarters, which was just a few feet away from the building.

The generator car and the coaches are said to have derailed while being reversed into the maintenance pit.

Railway officials said that there were no passengers in the coaches at the time of the derailment.
Also, none of the people on the road where one of the coaches had fallen after breaking through the compound wall were hurt as there was no vehicular movement or pedestrians on the road at that time.

In January, electric locomotive and two coaches of the Chennai-bound Shatabdi express had also derailed at the city railway station. On that occasion also no injuries were reported as there were no passengers in the coaches.
