Bangalore: Couple who got married 7 days ago die in accident

A newly-wed couple were mowed down by a speeding lorry near Rajanukunte, on the outskirts of the city, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Raju, 24, and Subha, 22. The couple, who got married just seven days ago, hailed from Jharkhand and were living in a rented house at Nitte Meenakshi Layout in Yelahanka. Raju was working as a security guard at a private college near Yelahanka.

Police said Raju returned home from work late in the night, after which the couple headed towards Doddaballapur to visit Raju’s elder sister.

Around 3 am, as their bike was passing near Aredeshalli Junction on Doddaballapur Road, a speeding lorry, loaded with cement bags, came from the opposite direction and hit the bike. The couple died on the spot, while the lorry driver fled the scene leaving behind the vehicle.

A case has been registered at Rajanukunte police station.
