Actress Ramya was in a jolly mood while mingling with children at Lalbagh on Saturday. The programme was held to celebrate World Tiger Day, in which more than 500 school children participated.

Speaking to dna, Ramya, said the theme of the competition is very impressive in creating awareness among the children about saving tiger. "There is dearth for government policies on saving tiger but such policies have to be implemented strictly to ensure saving wild animals in the state,'' Ramya said.

Ramya also recalled her childhood experience, "As I studied in Ooty while travelling through Bandipur National Park I was peeping for animals and I would hardly find any animals. If this continues our future generation will see wild animals only in photo albums."

Teachers and students evinced keen interest in participating in the art competition. "It is a good theme to spread awareness among the children. They get to know about the value of saving tigers or any wild animals. The message can be transferred through an art form", says Vimala L, a school teacher.

The event witnessed participation of more than 500 school children from various schools across Bangalore to paint their imagination of the tiger. The selected paintings will be promoted and auctioned online with support from NGO partners. "There should be awareness about the conservation of tigers for the future generations. Children should understand the sensitivity attached to the loss of tigers in the country", says Kadhiravan K, Circle Business Head, Karnataka.

Kadhiravan added the money collected from the auction of the paintings would be used for tiger conservation work. Expressing happiness over participating in the event, "I did face painting of a tiger, it was a great opportunity to be a part of this competition. Since 2012 I am participating in the programme", says Harshitha k, a 10th standard student from Janak Group of Institute.

Sharvari, a SSLC student from Jyothi Kendriya Vidyalaya has won the first prize under senior category and Deepti P from BNM School won first prize under junior category in the competition.
