A portion of road near the Press Club in Cubbon Park was jam packed with bikes, ranging from 1960 model of Jawa to the latest KTM 390, on Sunday, much to the chagrin of morning walkers. However, they did not complain after realising the cause behind the bikes being there.

About 350 bikers gathered near the Press Club to take out a rally to Bannerghatta Biological Park, in an attempt to create awareness on the importance of protecting environment.

“Many people are not aware of Bannerghatta Biological Park. They call it Bannerghatta National Park. The objective of organising this rally is to convey a message to society, especially to youth and corporate companies, on the need to adopt animals at the biological park,” said Mohan Menon, consultant (projects), Bannerghatta Biological Park.

Expressing happiness over the success of the bike rally, Vishal Agarwal of RD350 club said the main objective of the rally was to promote awareness among public regarding conservation of nature and awareness on how people can support animal adoption programme in Bannerghatta Biological Park.

“It is the first time we have organised a bike rally in association with Bannerghatta Biological Park. We have collected Rs15,000 from the participants randomly and donated it to the animal fund of Bannerghatta Biological Park. We were very happy to have cricketer Irfan Pathan as the chief guest at the programme,” said Vishal.

When asked about Pathan’s participation in the programme, Agarwal said the cricketer was on a private visit to the park. “We came to know about his birthday. We wished him, but could not cut a cake. Had we known about it, we might have arranged a big cake to celebrate his birthday,” said Agarwal.

He said the RD350 Club had organised a ride earlier to raise funds for Samarathanam Trust working for disabled people.

“We had succeeded in collecting Rs65,000 last year. We will organise programmes for charity in future,” he said.

Emphasising on the need to have more programmes to create awareness among public on animal adoption, RS Suresh, member secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka, said Bannerghatta Biological Park needs more animals and better infrastructure.

“I am very happy to see bikers taking out a rally. It is very interesting to send a message to society on the need of adopting animals,” Suresh said.

The bike rally passed through MG Road, Brigade Road, Shoolay Circle and Bannerghatta Road. The following clubs took part in it: Bangalore RD350 Club, Bangalore Yezdi Jawa Club, Bangalore Bullet Club, Gold Tow Bikers, Bajaj Avenger Club, Yamaha Radicals Club, Masked Bandit Bikers of India, Motorhead Maniacs, Rob Riders of Bangalore, Cross Roads, KTM Owners Club, Bikers Bros, Bangalore Karizma Bikers Club, Naked Blues, Team Boy Bangalore and Team Boy Kolar.
