Bangalore: ASI's house attacked for son's hit-and-run act

Tension gripped at Kannamangala near Kadugodi on Friday night when locals vandalised the house of an assistant sub inspector of police whose son was involved in a hit and run case leading to the death of a 54-year-old man.

Venkataraju, a farmer in Kannamangala, was his two-wheeler at Kannamangala Cross around 2 pm on Friday when rammed by another two-wheeler near Kannamangala Cross around 2 pm on Friday. The rider of the other vehicle sped away. Passersby rushed Venkataraju to a hospital in Hoskote and then to Hosmat Hospital, where he passed away around 9 pm.

Meanwhile, local residents came to know that the fugitive rider was Tejas, 20, son of ASI Shivanna attached to Kadugodi station.

“The Whitefield traffic police had registered a hit-and-run case. By evening, Shivanna tried to file another case stating blaming Venkataraju for the accident, claiming that the victim was in an inebriated state. Locals residents came to know about this and went to the house of the ASI, where they resorted to vandalism. They also smashed the windshield of a Swift car and tried to set a two-wheeler on fire. The Kadugodi police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. The son and the father duo were not at home when the house was attacked,” the police added.

However, Tejas is yet to be arrested.
